ADULT ADHD TREATMENT

adult adhd ASSSESSMENT, DIAGNOSIS + TREATMENT PLANS

THE IMPACT OF ADULT ADHD

Many of us have "clues" that lead us to believe we may suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). If you recognize any of the situations believe, I invite you to contact me today to schedule an assessment and diagnosis—the first step in your journey of a happy, more well balanced and harmonious life!

  • You may have been told by others that you're "thin skinned" or emotional. You feel more than others; more perceptive or intuitive. Emotional regulation and sensitivity to rejection are traits of Adult ADHD that are often overlooked but can cause serious disruption to your life and relationships.

  • You're likely a high-achiever, expert at hyperfocus—but mostly with the things that interest you or provide some kind of pleasure. The other "stuff" doesn't really interest, no matter how important. You're easily bored. But, you also have a compulsion to keep trying hard—and have all your life. Trying to become engaged is often beyond what you can handle and you may end up feeling frustrated and wondering what's wrong with you. You know you're smart but you just can't stick with that which doesn't interest you.

  • You may also identify with feelings of perfectionism.  If you can't do something perfectly, well, there's no point in starting. This leads to procrastination because the time is never "right".

  • You've reached heights in your career that others envy, though they may not realize fully what it has taken for you to get there. In fact, you may feel as if people knew the "real" you, they would reject you entirely. It's been no easy ride. Others don't see the late nights, the constant worry and anxiety and spinning that goes on in your head, wondering if you're on the right path. Trying to convince yourself you are smart. That you can do this.

  • Your career as a professional or C-Suite executive is a direct result of your hyperfocus, yet you have a gnawing feeling in your gut. The words "Imposter Syndrome" ring in your head every time you sense judgement or criticism from others. Getting where you are has taken alot from you personally as well as from your relationships.

  • Irresistible urges are commonplace and relentless. Days, hours—minutes, even—are full of distraction and overwhelm leaving you exhausted. It's likely you've put systems in place to alleviate some of the suffering that accompanies these challenges but in truth they bring little solace. In fact, the journey to feeling better about yourself when living with ADHD can feel as if it's always just out of reach with feelings of self-criticism and judgment.

ADHD ASSESSMENT + DIAGNOSIS

A comprehensive clinical interview serves as the foundation of our first step, providing us most accurately with a firm diagnosis of Adult ADHD. This is instrumental in developing a custom treatment plan that brings you peace in living with ADHD. During the assessment, you can expect:
  • An initial consultation
  • A comprehensive two hour interview where you may gain clarity as well as to the diagnostic criteria that goes into assessing and diagnosing ADHD
  • The opportunity to talk about the struggles that you've encountered in a warm, non-judgmental environment
  • To receive complete support as you express yourself
  • The opportunity to include your romantic partner or family members if you wish
  • An examination of co-morbid disorder that may be present such as Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD, Learning Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Issues
  • Follow up sessions to discuss the assessment and diagnosis
  • A treatment plan going forward; whether this means collaborating with me or if we decide that other professionals should be considered (including referrals for medication),  you will have a clear path as to your next steps

TREATMENT PLAN

Once  your assessment and diagnosis are complete, we can turn our attention to your treatment. There is no "one-size-fits-all" treatment approach. To be truly effective, we must customize it to the challenges that you are facing in order to improve the direct impact that ADHD is having on your life, relationships, career and friendships.  This may include attention to multiple areas such as:
  • Daily Life Functioning
  • Psychological Functioning
  • Emotional Intelligence and Soft Skills as they relate to your relationships both at the social level and romantically
  • Executive Functioning, i.e., working memory, your sense of time and the persistence of effort that you feel you must go through in order to accomplish what you'd like
  • Academic Functioning for adult students in college and graduate programs
  • Occupational Functioning

ADHD COACHING

Perhaps you've always had a suspicion that ADHD is your issue. You've taken the tests at the back of magazines or online, and it seems like you have so many of the symptoms. Or perhaps you have a child just diagnosed with ADHD and pieces are falling into place. Whatever brings you here now, you are finally at a spot where the ADHD is just not OK anymore. And I can help!
